Binding finishes off the edges of your custom rug. Without binding the rug will unravel and shed along the cut edges. The two types of binding are tape and serger.
Tape binding. Tape is a heavy cotton twill that is folded in half lengthwise. The tape envelops the raw edge, forming a three-layer sandwich. The tape is stitched with a straight stitch to secure the tape. Colorwise, the tape can match or contrast the body of the rug.
Serger binding. The raw edge is overstitched very closely using a serger. If you are interested in having fringe, this is the option to choose.
