Carpet Mills Design offers custom rugs & rug binding

For that perfect area rug consider custom rugs & rug binding. Finding the perfect area rug can be a lot like Goldilocks’ search for the perfect chair, that’s why the custom rugs and rug binding service at Carpet Mills Direct answers that tricky question of the perfect area rug.

In fact custom area rugs are interior designers’ go-to for decorating solutions. Finding a rug that is outside of the off-the-rack 5x7, 8x10 or 9x12 area rugs is difficult; and if you find that rug, maybe you want a 10x10 square, they are costly.

Putting your custom rug together

For the body of the rug, you can use remnants, pieces cut from a roll of broadloom, or we can special order for you. To get the rug you want you’ll need to consider:
  • The style, for example – plush or frieze
  • The color
  • The fiber
  • The pattern

With a custom rug, you can mimic designer touches like animal hide rugs. You can make a vegan version by using a zebra or fawn pattern cut out of the broadloom in the shape of a skin. This is a classic look to layer over other carpeting.

Binding your custom rug

Binding finishes off the edges of your custom rug. Without binding the rug will unravel and shed along the cut edges. The two types of binding are tape and serger.

Tape binding. Tape is a heavy cotton twill that is folded in half lengthwise. The tape envelops the raw edge, forming a three-layer sandwich. The tape is stitched with a straight stitch to secure the tape. Colorwise, the tape can match or contrast the body of the rug.

Serger binding. The raw edge is overstitched very closely using a serger. If you are interested in having fringe, this is the option to choose.

Carpet Mills Direct can fabricate the custom rug of your dreams, if you are lucky enough to live in Lake Worth, West Palm Beach, Boynton Beach and Wellington. With our custom rug & binding service, there are no barriers to having that perfect rug for your home.
